This work, in the form of a guidebook, provides a brief overview of the colorful history of Toomemäe: Tartu’s most beautiful park has hosted, over the centuries, a former medieval castle, a military barracks, and the academic center of the University of Tartu. In addition to the history of Toomemäe, the book also introduces the buildings housing the University of Tartu Museum – the former cathedral, the old anatomy building, the observatory, and the art museum in the university’s main building. Additionally, 30 objects from the museum’s collections have been selected to offer a glimpse into the valuable assets of the university museum. Richly illustrated, the book covers such topics as the world’s most advanced telescope of its time, symbols of university governance, innovative instruments used in scientific research, and rare works of art.
