Description

A comprehensive book about creative individuals from the younger generation of Estonian artists. The “22+” project aims to highlight the connections between the artworks and the context in which they were created through portraits, conversations, and reproductions of the artists’ works. Over the course of six months, photographers Anu Vahtra and Pelle Kalmo followed the artists in their homes and studios.

The book features engaging, informal conversations that seek to reveal 22 very personal stories, focusing on past choices and the present moment. How do the artists perceive themselves, and in what role do they see themselves? What does being an artist mean in contemporary Estonia? What hopes or fears do they have when starting their careers? Where does art rank in their lives? The rising, highly talented generation of graphic designers has found a fitting challenge in this book. Indrek Sirkli’s design is meticulously considered, giving each author space and attention.

The 22+ artists featured include Alice Kask, Alvar Reisner, Andres Lõo, August Künnapu, Margus Tamm, Sandra Jõgeva, Elis Saareväli, Kärt Ojavee, Katrin Koskaru, Kristiina Järvelaid, Kristina Norman, Külli K. Kaats, Lilli-Krõõt Repnau, Maarit Murka, Merike Estna, Neeme Külm, Raul Keller, Silja Saarepuu, Tarmo Salin, Tiit Sokk, Tõnis Saadoja, and Villu Plink.
