Catalogue „Raul Rajangu. Luminoso. 1968–2008”

Raul Rajangu’s monograph with the subtitle „Luminoso” compiles all the fragmentary and often contradictory information circulating about the prominent artist since the mid-1980s, found in the media, archives, storage, and on more or less accidentally captured reproduction slides, in a portrait film about him, in chaotically documented exhibition views, and in the minds of critics.
The principles of compiling the book and its physical form borrow much from the artist’s own creative principles; the book is printed on two different types of paper, and the very specific cover material follows the principles of material honesty and tactile sensitivity, which Rajangu has perfected in his paintings. The reuse of existing texts refers both to the lack of a general overview of Rajangu’s work and simultaneously to his own approach of constantly incorporating his old works as the basis for new ones.
In addition to the well-known hit paintings and videos, the book also reproduces seven previously unpublished works from the artist’s youth. The primary role of the book, published in both Estonian and English, is to create an artist profile by collecting, systematizing, and making information publicly available.
