The books accompany the exhibition «Zuloaga. The soul of Spain» in the Mikkeli Museum (closed in 05.09.2021). The exhibition celebrates the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Estonia and Spain. The exhibition and books created in cooperation with the Ignacio Zuloaga Museum bring to the public a representative selection of the works of Ignacio Zuloaga (1870–1945), one of the most important painters of the early 20th century in Spain.
“I am interested in the courage and honesty of thoughts, that loud and deep cry, the soul of Castile, the sacrifice of many things to highlight the most important. I would like to paint this gigantic Castile that captivates my senses, with a granite palette, refajo skirt on canvas, wrought iron brushes, black and yellow. I want to paint with my heart and mind, not my eyes.” With Ignacio Zuloa
“It was only when I saw this people at the bottom of their home landscape that I understood the unbroken connection that connects a person with his surroundings. The world that I had admired while painting with Zuloa became essentially comprehensible». Friedebert Tuglas
