Description

It is a voluminous work, in which the author of the book, Eero Epner, gives an overview of the history of the formation of an art collection, its mission and activities in the presentation of Estonian classical painting both in Estonia and abroad.

The core of Enn Kunila’s collection is made up of the works of outstanding Estonian painters active in the first half of the 20th century. The works of Konrad Mägi, Ants Laikmaa, Nikolai Triigi, Ado Vabbe, Roman Nyman, Villem Ormisson, Richard Uutmaa and many other artists are represented. Over the years, 25 exhibitions based on the collection have been held in Estonia, Finland, Belgium and Italy. Numerous art catalogs and books have been published.

The work “Longing for beauty” contains a large number of large reproductions of the works of Estonian Golden Age artists as well as the paintings of Enn Kunila’s good friend and artistic advisor, painter Olev Subbi. The work also contains a more in-depth overview of exhibitions and published books, and people who have a long-term connection with the collection share their thoughts and memories.
