Vappu Thurlow “Evi Tihemets”

Evi Tihemets is an Estonian printmaker who discovered modernism in the 1960s and whose approach to colour was influenced by pop art. Over the decades, she has used a variety of techniques: black-and-white and colour lithography, etching, vernis mou and later mixed media and collage. Her best works include brightly coloured prints inspired by literature and current affairs from the 1960s, portraits from the 1970s and later landscapes made with vernis mous, religious compositions from the 1980s, compositions about Estonian freedom, and more recently large-scale abstract works.
In addition to an overview of the artist’s work, the book concludes with biographical information, a list of exhibitions, an English-language resume, lists of works in Estonian and English, photographs and 220 reproductions.
