Description

Ancient Egyptian art and cultural heritage have fascinated people for centuries. The decipherment of hieroglyphs and the study of tombs with rich contributions have given us more and more knowledge about the life of the Egyptians. With the addition of knowledge, their culture has started to be valued more and more, but still, this eternal civilization will always be accompanied by mystery.

Due to the great interest in ancient Egypt, collections of Egyptian antiquities have been established in many museums around the world. One of the oldest and largest collections of ancient Egyptian art is housed at the Museo Egizio in Turin, Italy. The diverse collection there includes former private collections made up of coincidences as well as grave goods and mummies found during systematic excavations. Individual objects can also be found in Estonian museums.

The joint exhibition of the Museo Egizio and the Estonian Art Museum “Glory of Egypt”. Art of the Nile Valley” at the Kumu Art Museum (10.10.2020 – 21.03.2021) is the first such comprehensive presentation of Ancient Egyptian art in Estonia. A selection of rare works of art and consumer goods exhibited at the exhibition is also reflected in this book.
