Description

This book was born together with the exhibition “Roman style. Mannerist graphics from Estonian collections” with preparation in the Mikkeli Museum. There are relatively few prints from this period in Estonian collections, but by gathering together graphic pages from different collections, it was possible to create a versatile display reflecting many important topics and trends in handling Mannerism. The print will publish all these works together, creating a broad overview of Mannerist graphic art found in Estonia.
In addition to the external graphics of the Estonian Art Museum and all of Johannes Mikkel’s graphics, the collected material includes graphic pages from the Art Museum of the University of Tartu, the library of the University of Tartu, the National Library of Estonia, the National Archives and private collections.
In addition to the catalogue of the works exhibited in the exhibition, the book contains a voluminous article on the nature of mannerism and mannerist graphics by Arkadi Ippolitov, a prominent art historian in Russia, the keeper of the Italian graphics collection of the State Hermitage, whose texts are not only highly influential and popular, but also a great writer’s sense.
