“Proceedings of the Art Museum of Estonia 17. Papers on the Collections of the Art Museum of Estonia II”
The issue was based on the research work of the collection holders, curators and conservators of the Art Museum of Estonia. Usually, the research of the museum is shown through exhibitions and the catalogues that accompany them, but the research tends to take a back seat and does not stand out as strongly as in an article devoted to a research theme. The articles published in this issue reflect the research topics which are of greatest interest to collection holders, curators and conservators; in some cases, the writers have been deeply involved with these themes for decades.
This issue does not cover all of the research projects that have taken place or are currently taking place at the museum, but it does contain examples of the research directions that are important for the museum. Focusing on the study of Baltic German artistic and cultural heritage, the works of the first professional Estonian artists, modernism in the period between the First and Second World Wars, and research on the Soviet art heritage at the museum.
