Ott Metusala “Nobody Expected..”

In the book, the author’s grandmother, Kirsti Metusala, documents the design work at the Estoplast factory, where she worked as a designer for a total of 28 years (1964–1992). The book contains historical photo documentation of Estoplast lamps and is accompanied by an interview with Kirsti Metusala, which outlines her duties, describes the details of the design process of various lamps and talks about the profession of a designer in Soviet Estonia. Kai Lobjakas, director of ETDM and curator of the design collection, has written an essay in the book, in which he discusses the importance of Soviet Estonian design and the production of the Estoplast factory in a wider context.
