Description

The book accompanies the Kadriorg Art Museum exhibition “Always by our side”. Cats and dogs 16.-19. in the art of the 20th century” (26.09.2020 – 28.02.2021) and conveys the history of animals and art in a heartfelt, serious and adventurous way.

Written by art historians Tiina-Mall Kreemi and Anu Allikvee and illustrated with the works of old masters and drawings by Kätlin Tischler, the book takes children on an adventure through time together with Muki and Miisu. There they come face to face with both familiar and unfamiliar people and their animals and discover how differently people have portrayed and treated animals throughout the ages.

Brief introduction of content: Muki and Miisu are a dog and a cat who live in a seemingly ordinary, but nevertheless special house – there are time holes in the floor. Once, Muki and Miisu fall into a time hole, where they find their historical master and mistress as well as a number of old pictures of dogs, cats and people. By looking at them closer or further away, Muki and Miisu learn about human nature and learn that animals also have a history, which is worth getting to know even more thoroughly.
