“Masculine existentialism. Margus Punab art collection”

Doctor Margus Punab owns a remarkable collection of Estonian art. The collection, which started in the first half of the ’00s and is still relatively young, now contains more than 700 artworks. The historical core of the collection is the avant-garde of the 1960s and 1970s, but in addition to earlier material, Punab also collects contemporary art, focusing on existentialist images of identity, sexuality and masculinity.

The catalogue is introduced by articles by three Tartu art scholars. The following pictorial section is divided chronologically: from the fifties to the sixties, the avant-garde ABC, from the sixties to the nineties, from the nineties to the present.
