Katja Novitskova “If only you could see”

Katja Novitskova’s work is located at the intersection of visual culture, digital technology and speculative fiction – she is interested in how the increasingly rapidly developing planet relies more and more on various data flows that visually mediate, preserve and change the environment around us. Staged as an all-encompassing environment, the exhibition makes sense of our modern times, looking back at it from a sci-fi vision of the future, when the world as we know it no longer exists.

The catalog accompanies the Kumu Art Museum exhibition “Katja Novitskova. If only you could see what I have seen with your eyes. 2nd degree” (23.02.-10.06.2018). In 2017, Katja Novitskova represented Estonia at the 57th Venice Biennale.

The texts in the book are published in Estonian for the first time. Katja Novitskova’s work is written by exhibition curator Kati Ilves, literary scholar Jaak Tomberg and curator and art critic Venus Lau.
