Holger Loodus. Recreating those old slope batteries

Holger Loodus (1970) is an artist who works mainly in painting and installation. One of the pervasive methods of his work is the mystification of everyday experiences. If his earlier works can be characterized through magical realism, the categories of science fiction or alternative history seem appropriate for his later works.

“Recreating those old slope batteries” depicts the process where the visionary image of the universe known from history is demystified and transformed into a product aimed at the masses. The exhibition uses the motif of the mountain of purgatory created by the Italian poet Dante Alighieri at the beginning of the 14th century, which the artist modernizes through his eyes. The goal of Holger Loodus is to observe how a mystical object loses its moralizing content, so that it becomes an easily acceptable, attractive design object. During this process, however, completely new perspectives open up.
