Description

The book is part of a series of publications introducing the materials stored in the Estonian Art Museum’s archive. The sixth book in the series deals with the history of the formation of the museum’s collections based on unpublished archival sources.

What were the first works of art in the collection of the Estonian Art Museum? How did Persian military equipment end up in the museum? What works were bought at pre-war foreign art exhibitions? We talk about the works that currently belong to the art museum, as well as those that have now found a place in other museums, lost or destroyed. You can read about these and many other topics in this archive publication, in which each article introducing a work or object is accompanied by its photo. The book presents nearly half a hundred colorful and unusual works that are or have been in the collection of the Estonian Art Museum and the story of how they came to the museum.
