Description

Peeter Allik (1966–2019) was a member of the Kursi school artist group, studying and teaching in Tartu. His linocuts, which explore social eccentricity and are known for their characteristic approach to line-work, made him one of the most renowned printmakers in Estonian art history. Besides these, Allik’s surrealist and grotesque paintings are also noteworthy.

Peeter Allik is also known for his bold humor and excellent technical skills, which he seamlessly combines into a personal whole in his creations. As if playing, he changes media and ways of self-expression in order to find the most suitable solution for his ideas – he paints, cuts linoleum, builds installations, takes part in performances in the ranks of Non Grata or tinkers with something else witty.

A comprehensive overview catalogue of Allik’s work accompanies the Tartu Art Museum exhibition “Peeter Allik. Cultivated Schizophrenia”. The 376-page hardcover book contains a comprehensive overview of Allik’s work and high-quality reproductions of his paintings and graphic works. In addition, the catalogue contains an interview with the artist by the curator of the exhibition and articles by various artistic and cultural figures, which further reveal Allik’s work and nature.
