Description

The overview exhibition “Mikoff. Sculptures” is accompanied by a 240-page bilingual catalog (Estonian and English), compiled by curator Gregor Taul, which provides a comprehensive look at Mare Mikoff’s work from 1971 to 2016. Art historian Reet Varblane offers an in-depth analysis of the artist’s life and career. An essay by St. Petersburg-based architectural historian and critic Vladimir Frolov explores the different manifestations of realism in socialist and post-socialist art, in the context of Mikoff’s work. Gregor Taul’s essay discusses the specifics of sculpture as an art form, highlighting how it has historically been more connected to public space, architecture, and politics, compared to painting. The catalogue concludes with an interview between Taul and Mikoff, discussing the artist’s creative journey.
