Catalogue Karin Luts “Conflicts and Confessions”

Karin Luts (1904–1993) was a painter and costume designer, recognized as one of the most important female artists of the 20th century in Estonia. She studied at the Pallas Art School in Tartu and furthered her education abroad. In 1944, Luts fled to Sweden, where graphic arts soon became part of her work. The artist bequeathed her painting and graphic creations to the Tartu Art Museum.

The Tartu Art Museum’s major project in 2004, “Konfliktid ja pihtimused” (“Karin Luts. Conflicts and Confessions”) is dedicated to the Estonian artist Karin Luts (1904-1993), the most renowned female artist. This color-printed catalog contains articles about K. Luts’s work and artistic views, a biography that includes authentic texts from the artist’s diaries and letters, illustrated lists of her works, a list of exhibition participations, and a bibliography.
