“Artists in collections”

The “Artists in collections” project launched for the 100th anniversary of Estonian independence, brought together artists working in the field of contemporary art with small museums across Estonia to draw attention to cultural heritage and offer new ways of making sense of it and linking it to the present. Ten very different exhibitions were created as a result of the residencies. Artists working with collections or archives is a fairly common practice in contemporary art, but in Estonia, an attempt to create new connections and connect communities with such thoroughness is the first of its kind.
