Description

The catalogue dedicated to architect Peep Jänes’s 75th birthday anniversary summarizes the five-decade-long extensive career of one of Estonia’s most significant architects from the Soviet era. A large part of his work includes monumental public buildings (such as the Pirita TOP, the Designers’ House, Tehvandi Ski Centre, the unbuilt opera house, etc.) and objects of notable historical significance (like the center of the Mustamäe V microdistrict, also known as the Kännu Kukk complex, and the Turisti shop). From the 1990s, notable works include the two-phase completion of the Stockmann department store and the renovation of two key works of Estonian architecture – the Estonia Theatre and the Estonian Drama Theatre. Nearly 50 buildings, projects, and competition entries are featured in the catalogue, illustrated with numerous sketches, drawings, and photographs. The essays and articles in the catalogue are written by Peep Jänes, emeritus professor Mait Summatavet, and architectural historian Mihkel Karu. Additionally, a long interview with the architect is included.
