Anne Tiivel “Klassikud: Leesi Erm” (“Classics: Leesi Erm”)

Leesi Erm, who graduated from the Textile Department of the State Art Industrial School and further studied tapestry weaving, began exhibiting her works in 1939. For her outstanding artistic achievements, she was awarded the title of People’s Artist of the Estonian SSR. Over twenty years, she also shared her knowledge with students in the textile arts department at the Estonian Academy of Arts (ERKI). Her unique creative style, developed largely under the watchful eye of Soviet power, achieved a high artistic and technical level. The rugs and textiles she created over five decades reflect the changes in Estonian applied art that were characteristic of the era. This catalog accompanies the exhibition of the same name.
