Anne Tiivel “Klassikud: Elo Järv” (“Classics: Elo Järv”)

Elo Järv has created 41 books, 9 guest books, 3 albums, 21 boxes, and 250 sculptures. She has drawn energy and inspiration from the memories of her beloved parents, her homeland, and the ancient cultures of the East, expressing concern and care for societal issues. Despite apparent similarities, Elo Järv’s works change over time. Beginning with high-voltage bookbindings and sculptural boxes, she moved on to the mysterious world of sculptures. The leather sculptures created by Elo Järv have become a unique phenomenon in the Estonian cultural landscape. These imaginative and magical sculptures seem like living and breathing organisms, existing outside of constantly changing temporal truths and fashion trends. For the artist, leather is a sensitive and living material through which she conveys the textures of nature, the play of light on the curves of surface reliefs. The forms are organically linked to the sensitive coloring of the leather. On the one hand, the materiality is important to the artist, but on the other, even more important is the spirituality.
