Description

The book “Woman in a Fur Coat. Selected works 1995–2020” brings together Petersen’s work of the last twenty-five years and the artist’s thoughts on life and work. In addition, the book contains a large interview with the artist and an article by the artist and art historian Kaire Nurga.

The book is in Estonian, English and Danish.

Art historian Peeter Talvistu has written: “Although Per William Petersen was born in Denmark, he can be considered a Danish-Estonian artist for the present moment. During the more than fifteen years spent in Tartu, he has become a part of the local artistic life. His personal handwriting is familiar to the audience and at the same time he has clearly managed to find his niche. Petersen’s works full of absurdity and humor are highly regarded, and his geometric style, patina-like finish and whimsical sense of humor are seen as something quintessentially Petersen-like.”

Artist and art historian Kaire Nurk adds: “Petersen’s consciously undertaken life-scale experiment – to exchange an environment full of fixed memory patterns with a new environment completely open to the unexpected – is deeply intriguing. His works always cause a slight tingling sensation, something is always sensitively touched in a person and his being. His creation also turns into a journey of the human soul full of surprises and emotions.”

Per William Petersen is a sculptor, painter and graphic designer born in Denmark in 1955 and living in Tartu. He is a member of the Estonian Artists’ Union, the Estonian Sculptors’ Association, the Tartu Artists’ Union and the Danish Sculptors’ Union.
