Description

The book “Vanishing Point: How to Disappear Without a Trace in Estonia” was published as part of the exhibition “On Disappearance and Disappearing” at the Tartu Art Museum, held from March 11 to May 29, 2016. It is a guidebook offering tips and advice on how to disappear from Estonian society. The book provides practical suggestions on what to do in cases of fleeing due to domestic violence, evading the police, abandoning one’s identity, covering one’s tracks in nature, destroying vehicles, killing an attack dog during a chase, finding help, getting free food when starving, and much more.

Bürner’s work may seem extremely brutal and exaggerated at times, as it addresses extreme examples of disappearance scenarios. In a way, the book resembles an over-the-top, ironic, and occasionally humorous action movie, but it sharply highlights societal problems and issues. The book is in a pocket-sized format.
